April 25th, at the 2026 White House Correspondence Dinner at approximately 9 PM, a gunman rushed the security checkpoint, which had been set up in the Washington Hilton hotel, and began to open fire.
They Tried to Take Out Trump
Almost immediately in the adjacent room, President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania, and Vice President J.D. Vance were rushed to cover by several Secret Service agents. After escorting these VIPs to safety, the Secret Service, armed with AR15s and Ballistic vests, secured the area.
While this went down, the 2000+ attendees, including journalists covering the event, were ordered: “Stay Down”. Some hit the deck and went prone on the floor, while others took cover behind whatever desk they could find. Simultaneously, the SS cut off all communication with the outside world.
Shortly after, they were able to disarm and detain the suspect Cole Allen, a 31 year old Californian professor. Allen was highly educated and had even won a teacher of the month award previously, but had seemingly become radicalized against the Trump administration. Over the past two years, he had attended the No Kings Protest and donated to a pro-Kamala organization, but nothing that suggested he was capable of this violence.
On the night of the attack, he was armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and several knives.
Just before the attack, he reportedly sent a manifesto to his family, which labeled him as the “Friendly Federal Assassin” and explained that he was targeting Trump administration officials.
Notably, due to a breach in protocol, all members of the Trump cabinet were present, meaning if he had been successful in his attack, there would be no designated survivor off-site. Trump called the manifesto “anti-Christian”, but Attorney General Todd Blanche explained that the investigation is ongoing.
His list of targets included all members in the administration, strangely with the noted exclusion of FBI director Kash Patel.
Due to the fast actions and preparedness from Secret Service members, there were luckily 0 casualties, and the only injuries were one officer, who was shot, but it hit his vest, and the suspect himself, who was shot before being taken down.
Previous Assassination Attempts
It’s important to note that this is not even the first alleged assassination attempt against him in the last two years… It’s the third.
Anyone who followed US news leading up to the 2024 election will remember the attempted assassination of Trump on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania. As Trump spoke, 20-year-old Republican Thomas Crooks shot towards the president. One shot reportedly grazed Trump’s ear, spraying blood and leading to a photo(shown below) that helped him win the election as he stood up defiantly and yelled: “Fight fight fight!”
One firefighter, Corey Comperatore, who had been attending the event, was struck and killed by a stray bullet, and two other attendees were critically injured. Crooks was then killed by Secret Service snipers positioned nearby. A clear motive was never established.
Then again, just two months later, in September 2024, a 58-year-old man, Ryan Routh, hid for 12 hours on Trump’s Palm Beach golf course armed with a Russian SKS-style rifle. Luckily, prior to the president coming into range, an SS member saw the barrel of Routh’s gun and opened fire upon him. After fleeing the scene, Routh was captured, and in early 2026 he was sentenced to life in prison.
It also isn’t just Trump that has been targeted, but the last several years have seen a dramatic rise in political violence from both sides of the aisle.
For example, on June 14th, 2025, Democratic Lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband were shot dead in their own homes. Their killer, republican Vance Boelter had disguised himself as a police officer to gain access before shooting them. He also had a list of other Minnesota Democrat lawmakers to target and also ended up shooting Senator Hoffman and his wife, who luckily survived.
Similarly on September 10th, while speaking on a college campus, conservative Political
commentator Charlie Kirk was shot through the neck and killed by a lone gunman. Afterwards he was mocked by political rivals accross the internet.
22 year old Tyler Robinson fled the scene carrying a 30-06 hunting rifle. He was later picked up and confirmed to have motive, a trans-girlfriend and resentment for Kirk for spreading an anti-trans agenda. Almost immediately, the grizzly videos were all over the internet for the world to see.
Following these attacks, both Democrats and Republicans were quick to blame the other party for spreading divisive and violent rhetoric, but both were responsible. Both parties must do more to avoid this divisive language and promote a unified America, so the country can finally begin healing.
Conspiracy Theories: Fatal or Fraudulent?
But are all of these political shootings and attempted shootings just the work of lone wolves radicalized online? Or is there something bigger going on behind the scenes?
Some strange circumstances around this shooting have led many, mostly but not entirely critics of the Trump administration, to speculate that it had been a false flag – a show put on by the government.
Notably, many are wondering how the shooter Allen was able to get so close without detection, but the weird details dont stop there. Images circulated online appear to show Cole Allen in an IDF sweatshirt:
Its important to note that the first picture could not be independently verified and could have been altered by AI.
Those sharing these theories argue that it came at a very convenient time for the Trump administration which is doing poorly in nationwide polls thanks to the unpopularity of the Iran war it launched.
Similar conspiracies also circulated following the shooting in Butler. This first shooting undeniably boosted Trump in the polls at the time and contributed to his 2024 election success. Critics point to his ear, now full healed where it had been shot and argue that cartilage cant be regrown. They also point out that Secret Service would never have let him stage for the photo seen above had it been legit.
Lastly Kirk’s shooting and suspect is also riddled with controversy. Independent shooting analysts including both right and left wingers point out a clear contradiction in the story, a 30-06 rifle like the suspect had would’ve left a far larger exit wound. Something Kash Patel failed to take into account and now the case is in jeopardy.
Many believe that Kirk’s new found criticisms against Israel and threats from his Israeli donors is actually what led to his death. It’s an interesting common theme in many of these cases, Israel has more involvement or at least more knowledge about violence in our country then they are letting on.
But are these acts of violence just that? Are they part of some grander conspiracy to manipulate the American people? Or has the decades of divisive rhetoric just brought us to a breaking point and this violent as sickening as it is, is just a side effect of the toxic political spectrum?
